Hey…have you watched the news lately? What’s going on in your city or state? What’s the hap in the US? Watching the news is one of the things that I loathe the most!
On any given day the news is full of who shot whom, what injustice has taken place in my area, what restaurant was closed for asbestos, how I’m being scammed by a particular company and what country has a bomb and is threatening to blow the US off of the map. It’s insane! Segment after segment, for a solid hour, we are fed bad news that incites FEAR in the viewer. We have developed into a culture where FEAR brings ratings. FEAR brings people to hold meetings, forums, talk shows, etc. What’s so funny about it is that the as the FEAR dissipates, something else is introduced to keep the adrenaline flowing.
Any type of fear causes anxiety whether we know it or not. The underlying anxiety causes subtle changes in the way we think, act, and behave. For instance, decades ago a report was made about “fat” being in our food and everyone suddenly checked the food packaging for no fat, reduced fat, and fat-free labels. Growing up I remember buzz words like “weapons of mass destruction”, “anthrax”, and “plane hijaking”. Today it’s ISIS, Ebola, and -gasp- OBAMA is taking over the world! FEAR!
We must be mindful of how the media effects our everyday lives. Don’t allow fear and anxiety to drive you into this worlds insanity and panic. Be resourceful, do your research, and stop trusting everything that you read, hear, and see! Be empowered!
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. (2 Tim 1:7 AMP)
